Royal British Legion

We are delighted to welcome the Royal British Legion to this year’s show. Below are details of the flag raising and subsequent church service on 8th May.

VE Day
On 8 May 2025, we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, celebrating 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe. There is to be a National Event both in the UK and Europe on this day, ending with the lighting of Beacons, very similar to the D Day 80 Commemorations.

In Market Harborough the programme is as follows (and everyone is welcome):

0900hrs at the Old Grammar School there is to be a flag raising ceremony, a reading of a proclamation, and a few words from the Council leader.

At 1930hrs there is to be a Church Service at St Di’s Church which is on a “Thanksgiving” theme. The service should last about 45mins ending approximately 2015hrs.

The people in the Church will then be asked to walk down to the Square, where the RBL will hold a short ceremony, along with the Vicar:

An Opening Prayer
The Exhortation
Last Post
2 Minutes Silence
Reveille
Kohima Address
Laying of Wreaths:  Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Army, Merchant Navy, Council leader
Final Prayer
End of Service
