At last autumn’s AGM the Blaston Show committee was delighted to announce that donations of £11,450 could be made to various charities following the huge success of the previous show. The main beneficiaries for 2024 will be GEMS Charity and Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
GEMS, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary year, is a charity run solely by volunteers who raise funds and offer support to patients receiving chemotherapy treatment at Leicester’s hospitals. Specifically, they are currently raising money to extend and refurbish the Chemotherapy Suite in the Osborne building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary to enable patients to receive their treatment much faster. Over half a million pounds has already be raised towards this end.

Founded in 1994, Rainbows Hospice transforms the care of babies, children and young people, from birth to 25 years, who have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. Working across the East Midlands out of a purpose built, 14 bedded unit in Loughborough, the charity’s purpose is to provide end of life, palliative and short break care, as well as holistic support for the babies, children, young people and their families. As most charities do, it relies heavily on donations to fund this work.

Janette Stocks, Show Secretary for the Blaston & District Agricultural Society, said: “These are two very worthy causes and the entire committee is thrilled to welcome them to Blaston Show. Raising funds for local charities is one of Blaston Show’s raison d’etres and we have given away tens of thousands of pounds over the years, as well as raising awareness for our chosen charities. I look forward to welcoming representatives of GEMS and Rainbows Hospice to this year’s event.”
We look forward to seeing all of you at this year’s show.
